I am doing all these is just because Google Contact Sync in 10.5 mac os x does NOT support photo sync. On my iMac, I have all my frequent contacts embedded with their photos, either from their facebook page / via AddressBookSync, or by other means, such as I took their pictures. But, when I sync them to the cloud, Google Contact to use in my Android device, all photos are disappear...
So, I installed snow leopard on my netbook, just to sync my Contacts with their photo.
I tried first with virtual machine installation - didn't work for me, never got chance to start the setup, just freezing at the grey screen. Thus, I follow this post http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=190295 and install it to my 16G USB drive, then boot the EeePC with the USB drive! It works, even the web came works. The how-to is for 1000HE, but works for 1000HA EeePC.
Before start, make sure you download things listed below. As regarding to the Snow Leopard installation disc, 10.6 is good. If you are using DVD images, a gold master Snow Leopard file with MD5 value 1d1fb7eca55470143c153f7f902b4ada works.
Here is my stripped version of the original post with my modification (only tested on 10.6).
- Connect drive via USB to computer and format drive. GUID with one partition. (To select GUID, click the "option" button)
- Install OS X from image or disk. Finder -> Go Menu -> Go To Folder. Enter this location: /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages
- Open (double click) OSInstall.mpkg ...
- After OS X install complete, run NetbookInstaller.app selecting the drive you just install OS X to only install general extensions and Chameleon 2.0 RC3. It will tell you your on an unsported computer just click OK.
- Copy this extensions.mkext to the Extra's folder of the OS X drive and let it overwrite the original file.
- Connect the usb drive to your EeePC and boot it into USB / mac os x Snow Leopard
- Download the following three files and put them in another jump driver IOBluetoothfamily.kext VoodooHDA.prefpane AttansicL1eEthernet.kext
- Install them by either kexthelper or just copy them over the orginal and then run kext utility. Both tools are here. After installing, you will have to restart to see the results - working Ethernet connection
- At this point you will have a fully working 1000HA with OS X 10.6.
Some images, as proof
About the Google Contact Sync, it is a build-in function of Address Book, not a separate application. It syncs every hour or whenever you sync your iPhone/iPod. Enjoy!

I've followed this guide exactly, but when I try to boot it it tells me that i need to insert a bootable disk. any ideas?
did format your USB drive as "GUID with one partition" before making the installation disk? By default, USB drive will format as MBR for wider support, not GUID...
[...] I am doing all these? NOW? FaceTime for Mac … and the google contact sync with photo var escFun = window.encodeURIComponent ? window.encodeURIComponent : escape; var [...]
Yes, I did :-)
do you think this could be a permissions issue?
Writing this from my 1000ha hackintosh, wanted to fill anyone else in who might be attempting it. I wasn't able to get it working with this method (installing SL to a USB disk), but I was able to restore the os x image to a usb drive and put the chameleon bootloader on by following this guide (www.enik.ch) It might have been a permissions issue with the boot file. The non-bootable warning was coming from an IDE converted to USB drive. I toasted my first install by being freehanded with the kexts. I haven't installed the ones in this page yet, as my ethernet is working with the ones I did install and I'm scared to kill this computer. I installed all the grey, red, and blue labeled kexts here http://prasys.info/2009/09/snow-leokexts-for-netbooks/ to the correct place with kexthelper, making sure there were no duplicates, but not the green (not for us.) I also ran kext utility.
I downloaded and played with DSDTSE (also available on enik.ch) Because the trackpad and keyboard weren't working (externals were fine.) I had to flash my BIOS to a newer version and downloaded a pre-modded dsdt.aml file from this thread http://ipis-osx.wikidot.com/forum/t-153754/ (I used Thireus' patched version, rather than alex_l, but I did use his BIOS file) I installed this first and then flashed the BIOS:
format a flash drive to FAT 16 (also called FAT, but not FAT 32. Need to do this in Windows or Linux)
put that BIOS file on it, should be named 1000H.ROM (1000HA and 1000H use the same BIOS)
make sure there are no other files on it (delete the hidden mac directories:
terminal code:)
cd /Volumes/YOUR\ USB\ DRIVE
yes | rm .*
restart your computer, press f2 to edit your current BIOS to look for the USB in Boot Device Priority
restart your computer, put your new BIOS drive in, as soon as it is turned on press and hold alt+f2
this can brick your PC so be careful, only do it if your BIOS can't play nice with any dsdt.aml file out there
That's it, this had me up and going! No wifi yet, but I imagine that will fall into line after I buy the supported hardware.
3x!
Hi,
Did you get the WiFi to work as well?
Thanks
couldn't remember now, sorry
