This is a post about current status of HTC EVO hacking.
The following post form @toastcfh shows "{tutorial} how to root \0/"

No matter what's the status of your HTC. Use the PC36IMG.zip flash to get to a rooted 1.32.651.1 environment. Please note that both the PC36IMG.zip from toastcfh and the stock rom from flipz are using .1 version software, which has SD card reading/writing issue. By the way, they block the HTC update as well. As noted by toastcfh, they are working on an update to fix the microSD card issue!
If you want to back to the stock / factory setting. Download RUU from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685835

This is the only RUU that after flashing, you will still be able to root using @toastcfh . Here are some screen capture from my experience. Very easy and straight forward.
A recent OTA update from HTC fixed the annoying microSD card issue. You can update it from stock rom via HTC Software Update. Or, applying the following RUU.
RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.6_Radio_1.39.00.05.31_release_171253_signed.exe

In summary:
HTC EVO Supersonic_1.32.651.1, can be rooted by @toastcfh method, and will be able to flash any rom into it, such as Fr0y0, and will be able to do nand backup.
HTC EVO Supersonic_1.32.651.6, microSD issue has been fixed; but cannot root by @toastcfh method, which will downgrade the system back to .1 version.
For Supersonic_1.32.651.6, try @unrevoked . @unrevoked is a go, root with or without OTA: http://unrevoked.com #evo #android #root . It is a user land root app, which runs every time after reboot and enable the users to use apps require root access, such as drocap2 and Titanium Backup. But #unrevoked root does not give you root access in recovery mode, which means no rom flash or nand backup :(
What I really want, is 1.32.651.6 root with recovery access, then I will be able to do nand backup and remove several built-in apps from Sprint.
