Why there is no instruction?
I asked help.ucsf.edu and got the following answer

The best way to connect is through the UCSF-NET wifi. Select and it will prompt you to login with myaccess. Then click the start button on the right.
Hello, I can connect UCSFnet, but no access to any website unless I login VPN, which is Java based network connect and cannot run in Mobile Chrome or Safari! Just sooooooo un-professional!
But, it would be really nice to have access to UCSFwpa network. I know it is using 802.1x Enterprise setting. I googled and found a very helpful webpage from OSU. I did the following and made my Droid and EVO connected to UCSFwpa!
- Click the Menu button and select 'Settings'.
- Scroll to the top and select 'Wireless & Networks'.
- Make sure the that 'Wi-Fi' selection is checked. Select 'Wi-Fi Settings'.
- Under Wi-Fi networks you will see a list of available networks, if you see 'UCSFwpa' select that to configure. If you do not see it, proceed to manual configure with Network SSID 'UCSFwpa'.
- Make sure that the 'Security' is selected as '802.1x Enterprise'.
- In the pull down menu of 'EAP Method', select 'PEAP'.
- In the pull down menu of 'Phase 2 authentication', select 'MSCHAPV2'. (This is the information Android system could not pull out from the wireless signal.)
- Scroll past CA certificate and Client certificate (with N/A selected).
- In the 'Identity' field enter your VPN account name. Skip the 'Anonymous identity' field.
- In the password field enter your VPN password.
- Select Connect and you are ready!
For iPhone, UCSF library has a nice how-to page.
