It has been over a year of using iPhone 3G.

Last time I summarized the apps on my iPhone was in Jan 2009.

It is time for an updated post about my iPhone experience.

First, iPhone 3G is slow, much slower than my brain and my fingers! 3GS might be better, but I don't have it. If I am giving a chance to have a Nexus One, I will definitely switch over. Not only because it is fast, but also ...

Second, on my five screens of apps, only a few are used frequently.

Here is my most frequently used iPhone app.

Twitterrific: for twittering, must-have. I have the pro version without ads. Use it almost every hour when I am awaken.

BeejiveIM: IM app, which can connect to gtalk, msn, ... I use it for MSN communication. By using it, my status on msn is 24/7. Any msg to me will be delivered to my iPhone by the push, as long as my phone is in the AT&T network. (The place where I work has really bad signal. Most of the time, even the normal phone function doesn't work. If the call is transferred to voice mail, it means I am working ...)

CalenGoo: calendar backup app, which allows me to view my multiple google calendar in one place. UI is not great, but it just works. I use DavMail to sync the exchange calendar, which has most of my work schedules. GalenGoo comes handy to store/view my other plans/schedules.

Facebook: anyone on earth should know it. I use this app by @joehewitt is really a pierce of work! Love it since the very moment it was released. Much better than the messy online version ...

FreeMemory: must-have for 3G iPhone, especially heavy game player. The reboot process of iPhone is ridiculous slow. This careful designed app really speed my phone.

Dictionary: sorry for my poooooooor English vocabulary

Gmail: you know what it does - a shortcut on the screen to open gmail in Safari Mobile

PubSearch Plus: it is work related, helping me quickly access the abstract of a paper I am interested. However, my current work place doesn't support EZProxy, which is why I bought the plus version!

Tanzaku: a writing pad for hand-draw Chinese writing - use it when I am low

Terminal: must-have, installed immediately after I jailbreak the phone. With it, I have completely control of my iPhone!

Dropbox: quick access to files on my desktop. A very nice iPhone app. Installed it when it was released! Recent update supports PDF page jumping, which really helps when reading a file having 100 pages. Personally, I think the dropbox is the best online storing service on the market right now. It is free for 2G storage, which is more than enough for me! I really like it hands all the file sync stuff quickly and correctly. Recent update of the desktop software allows LAN-Sync. How awesome it is!

Flight Update: I have my travel plans store in it. With it, I can check flight status on the go. Immediately know the gate change or the delay, etc. Very neat!

Snow Report: for skiing! Use it very heavily when the winter season starts. Pick my favorite resorts in it and the app will push snow condition to my phone when it is available! It is from REI. One of the most carefully designed app!

WordPress: control my blog wherever I am. Must-have!

Monopoly: it is my most played game. However, I am getting busy and haven't touch it for a while ...

Cydia: the last but most important app! Jailbreak the iPhone to have 100% control of it. Right now, I have Cyntact, Mobile Terminal, OpenSSH, Rotation Inhibitor, SBSettings with several toggles installed through Cydia. I have Hackulous and Installous installed as well. Before them, I wasted a lot of money by buying apps that not really "work" - one extremely example is "Smart Time Organizer w/Calendar, Alerts" from Left Coast Logic LLC. It costed me a lot, but the app is too complicated to use on a small screen, with completely not-friendly-handling of many things! I just want an app allowing me to check my calendar and insert simple tasks!

I haven't mention any built-in apps from Apple. Calendar, Clock, Camera and Phone are the ones I use very frequently. Since I am very good Internet connected, I don't use text messages - they are costs "a lot", bite-wise.

All the other apps are just sitting on my iPhone screen. Use them once of several months. I keep them not only because I bought them but also I feel I might need them at some point. Anyway, for iPhone, maybe even iPad, only very a few apps are frequently used. Why we need to pay $10 for a thing that we might only use it once - when we want to try it out ... APPLE
