My laptop running Ubuntu always has problem to hibernate or suspend. But, because of the super-fast open and shutdown (<10 sec) speed, I just ignore it.
Today, I finally know why my hibernation is not working, while the entire world is saying that by default hibernation and suspension work for thinkpad with Karmic.
Inspired by this page, I simply took out my SD card, which has been in my thinkpad for years, and the machine hibernated beautifully!

Suspension to ram is OK. But, resume from it has error. It is due to some EXT4-fs error - cannot find an easy fix and not that important to me.
O Well! O Well!
