Take home message: using redsn0w, the jailbreaking is much smoother; however, the AptBackup is not working.

- Update iTunes to 8.2
- Download redsn0w from iphone-dev.org, check its sha1 value (0d58ff133461f3487a80200fe924741dd393b724) in the terminal
$sha1 redsn0w-mac_0.7.2.zip - Backup iPhone and upgrade firmware to 3.0 ... (I did it because my previous jailbreaking experiences told me that I have to install the official version first, then jailbreak it)
- Unzip the redsn0w, and run it:
- Locate the firmware file at ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates, mine is iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
- Attach the iPhone with the mac then turn off the iPhone
- Continue the steps: hold power button 3 seconds, add holding home button 10 seconds, release power button while holding home button 30 seconds.
- After the iPhone reboots, the jailbreaking is done!
- Load Cydia, which will take several minutes to reorganize something and I had an automatically reboot ...
- In Cydia, install the following apt: Installous, MobileTerminal, NemusSync, OpenSSH, Rotation Inhibitor, SBSettings, VoIPover3G, xGPS. I noticed these ones are installed automatically: Hackulous Security, iPhone Firmware, sbsettingstoggles, and various repositories
- Have fun with the 3.0 operation system for iPhone 3G.
So far, only one app has problem in the new system - WifiTrak, with the following error
The search function is faster than I expected, so is the copy-paste function.
All my previous data, including the ones in Cydia's apps, are kept during the firmware upgrade process.
Let's rock & roll!
Remember to change the default SSH password 'alpine' in the MobileTerminal using the following command:
passwdThis is quick!! "24Kpwn lives on, in the iPhone 3GS!"
updated WifiTrak hit the AppStore today, which fixes the error in OS 3.0
