On May 12, 2008, a 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck China, the worst natural disaster in three decades. The 7.9-magnitude earthquake released destructive energy 400 times as great as of the first atomic bomb. Thousands of students from at least eight schools are still buried under the metal and roof-sized broken slabs of concrete.
The death toll, which is estimated to be 13,000 as of May 13, is expected to soar. Now is the most critical moment to save lives! They need your hands!

As you are probably aware, on May 12th 2008, a devastating 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck the southwestern province of Sichuan in China at around 2:28 PM Beijing Time (about 2:28 AM U.S. Eastern Time) and affecting over ten provinces. Half the China was shaken and the rescuing forces had faced enormous difficulty entering the disaster area due to a totally ruined ground transportation system and the rainy weather after the breaking shock. At the time of writing, the death count has been over 12,000 and the aftershock is still there threatening the lives of the survivors and the rescuing forces. This is a saddening moment for all the people on Earth: for the lives lost and for the homes destroyed; for the survivors injured and for the rescuing forces risking their lives for others; for the witnessing hearts scared and for the anxious souls watching the news far away.

Let's offer a helping hand to the ones suffering in this unimaginable disaster. The best way to support the rescue is by donating directly to the International Red Cross of China at http://www.redcross.org.cn/english/ or the ONE Foundation charity organization in Hong Kong at http://www.one-foundation.com/. You may also donate to the American Red Cross at http://www.redcross.org/, but please be aware that because of the fund management and transfer turnarounds it might or might not arrive at the victims when they are in the greatest need. According to rescuers of the Seismic zones world-wide, the first 48 hours are the most critical, and the quicker the follow-ons are made the more-likely the survivors are rescued and further disasters are prevented. A second quicker might be a life saved. Let's act quickly and help save lives together.

说明:
经过一轮轮联系，终于联系了可以按照我们要求最快速处理捐款，并让捐款最快达到灾区的渠道。当地的接受方为四川省扶贫基金会绵阳扶贫办公室，这个组织属于政府机构，平时专门分管绵阳周边贫困县的教育，接济特困生，修筑学校等项目。也一直在受理很多美国家庭对绵阳贫困县的捐款，据我所知，加州就有13个美国家庭联合起来长期每年给他们捐助8万美金供贫困区小孩上学。
这次地震之后扶贫办也立刻参加了救援，我跟他们负责人通话时对方就在绵阳体育馆为从北川等重灾区转移来的灾民发水发食物。根据他介绍，现在北川的路还是没完全通，出来的幸存者，轻伤员都统一集中到九州体育馆，现在那里已经聚集了上万灾民，所以市政府又将更多的灾民转移到绵阳体育场，但是现在非常紧缺各种生活必须物品，比如棉被（尤其是给小孩子用的，现在当地气温只有十几度），衣服，方便面，水等等。物资在批发当地批发市场能够及时买到，就是比平常贵20%左右。
我们第一批捐款大约三千美金将于5/14日寄出，对方将出据收据，购买物品清单，以及发放物品时现场照片,保证每一笔捐款都会花在需要的地方。我们用的是西北大学学生会的business paypal帐号，但这个是对所有人公开的捐款帐号，非常感谢西北大学学生会同意让我们用其帐号。我们捐款的名义将为北美华人。

PKUAANC has set up an Earthquake Relief Fund to help alumni and friends making donations to the earthquake relief efforts. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, PKUAANC will provide following services to donors:

1. PKUAANC will collect your donations and pass all donations to an earthquake relief organization (TBD, but most likely Chinese Red Cross).
2. PKUAANC will issue charitable donation receipts to you so that your donations will be tax-deductible.
3. All donor information will be passed to the receiving organization. Upon request, PKUAANC will try the best to obtain the receiving organization's donation receipts.
4. PKUAANC will publish online a frequently updated fund report and a final report once all donations are transfered to the receiving organization.

FUEDF 5.12 Sichuan Earthquake Relief
As we all know, a powerful earthquake has killed more than 21,577 people in China's south-western Sichuan province. Thousands and thousands more have been injured after the 7.8-magnitude quake struck at 14:28, May 12th, 2008.

Fudan University Education Development Foundation, joined by fudanren.org, is calling for donation to help China to recover from this huge disaster. We have opened a special account for Sichuan Earthquake Relief.

FUEDF was registered on January 25th, 2006, in Delaware, USA, as a non-profit corporation qualified for Federal Income Tax exemption under section 501(C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
